Guess Who!
Pull out the chocolate, sprinkles, and flour and get ready to bake.
So you may not have noticed but I’ve been a little bit absent from your inboxes the past few months. My computer needed repairing and let’s just say I was not at the top of the list for repairs from tech support. My son has brought home ALL the germs, and its his first year in school so we have had a ton of illness. I’ve also gained a big food photography client. I never truly stepped away from the blog, but being present on social channels plummeted. But I’m back and ready to bake and share with you!
June?? How is it June?? It is my birthday month, and every June I do my favorite bakes. So I’ll share some of my past favorites but don’t forget to check the website as new bakes WILL be appearing this month.
I’m also including a new section in this month’s newsletter I’ll probably do 3-4 times a year that I dreamt up with my friends. I’m part of the most awesome book club, and I often bring dessert to our meetings (obviously. Plus they are the best taste testers while recipe developing). An idea came up to share book and bake pairings like a wine and cheese pairing which I loved. If you aren’t a reader, feel free to skim over the books and just focus on the bakes.
Here are some of my favorite festive bakes that have come from the month of June:

Lemon White Chocolate Cheesecake - Two of my favorite flavors combined make a FANTASTIC cheesecake. Sweet and tart, and oh so creamy.
Oreo Focaccia - Sweet dessert focaccia is already elite but when you add Oreo cookies and browned butter? Is there anything better? No. The answer is no.
Birthday Cake Scones - Like funfetti cake in scone form. Vanilla chips and sprinkles make everything more fun and happy.
Milk Bread Chocolate Babka - Dark black cocoa swirled into uber soft milk bread. The taste is fantastic and the texture is perfection.

Yep, I’ve been lured into the fandom and the hype is real. Am I a big video game girly? Nope! But I love Carl and Donut. You might be thinking why am I not sharing a donut as the pairing with this. Because if you know, you know. Princess Donut is a bit spicy (but also sweet) so we have Goat Cheese & Hot Honey scones.

Piranesi is kind of unlike anything else I’ve ever read. It’s beautiful and feels classic but I almost quit reading it shortly after starting. Why? Because I had no idea what I was reading. I felt like I was in the dark, much like the main character. If you try, stick it out because it really does become a world you want to spend time in. For it’s pairing, I chose my double chocolate zucchini bread - it’s dark and rich, but you wouldn’t know there’s zucchini in it.

I read Remarkably Bright Creatures and fell in love with it immediately. It’s sweet and funny and a little nutty because one of the main characters is an octopus. But now that more people are familiar with it from the movie I definitely recommend the book as well. To go with it, I’m pairing my bakery style peanut butter cookies. Soft and sweet, but also a little nutty.
I hope these pairings find you a new treat whether that be for your brain or your stomach! I’ll be back later in the year with more selections.
